ZANZIBAR SEAWEED CLUSTER INITIATIVE

Zanzibar Seaweed Cluster Initiative is part of the Pan African Competitiveness Forum (PACF); A Clusters Programme in Africa with a Tanzanian Chapter-PACF-Tz. PACF is coordinated by Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH).

The Clusters Programme started officially in Tanzania in 2004 where by 8 Pilot Cluster Initiatives were established among them being the Zanzibar Seaweed Cluster Initiative (ZaSCI). Today there are about 71 clusters scattered throughout Tanzania.

ZaSCI  8th Seaweed Day targets the general public to be aware that seaweed can be utilised as food e.g. juice, jam, cake, and other confectionary products. Also production of other value added products such as soap and body cream.

More than 1,000 people to participate.

The Seaweed Day will bring together more than 1,000 people from all the Regions of Unguja and also representatives from Pemba. These included all members of ZaSCI, other seaweed farmers, fishermen, government officers (from local to central government), NGOs, and the general public.
